Semuliki National Park

Semuliki National Park is a unique fascinating destination in Western Uganda just 370km West of Kampala, Uganda’s capital. It is a 220 square kilometer protected area in Bundibugyo District, specifically Bwamba county. The park is part of the Albertine Rift, a region known for its high biodiversity and unique ecosystems.
Geographically, the park’s terrain is characterized by low lying savannah grasslands, tropical forests, wetlands and swamps, and the Semuliki River which flows all around the park. The area experiences two rainy seasons (March to May and September to November) and two dry seasons (June to August and December to February).
It’s advisable to visit Semuliki Park in the dry spell as weather is dry, allowing easy access to corners of the park and enabling more concentrations of the wildlife on the park’s water sources.

  The park has a wide variety of both plant and animal species due to its unique ecological zones and the existence of the Congo basin forest. Dominant trees include mahogany, ironwood, and mvule (over 100 years old), savannah grasslands, acacia trees, and other vegetation supporting the survival of the fauna system.
  Semuliki is home to over 500 bird species including Shoebill stork, Great Blue Turaco, Congo Serpent Eagle, yellow-billed oxpecker, and many more, making it a true bird watcher’s paradise.
  The park also comprises various mammals such as elephants, buffalos, bush pigs, monkeys (including chimpanzees and baboons), reptiles, amphibians, and insects, making Semuliki a full pack for tourists with various interests.
• Hot Spring Experience
  Semuliki is gifted with the Semaya hot springs, only comparable to Kitagata hot springs, which have attracted many visitors to Uganda. The rate at which water fumes out creates an unforgettable scenery.
  Many locals visit Semaya for healing, believing in the powers of the gods, and perform traditional rituals such as offering sacrifices and throwing coins in the water for blessings.
  The most exciting activity is cooking foods like boiled eggs, matooke, and cassava in the hot springs due to their high temperatures. Tourists also enjoy watching chimpanzees and monkeys near the hot springs.
